Motivation can be hard to come by. With a season of 2024 being as rough and challenging for so many, the spillover to 2025 means that it can be an incredibly hard space to gather motivation to achieve all that you want to for yourself. Be it to do better in life, to take yourself to therapy, or anything you’ve been looking at doing more of.
Even if it’s more rest and kindness, it does take effort for those who aren’t used to it.
On a really rough day, full of spiralling, hideous thoughts and an overall space of struggle, I wrote a letter to myself. Surprise surprise, for those of you who’ve been following me a while no, you’ll know how much I enjoy writing these tender and thoughtful ones.
For those of you who feel like quitting on life, and for when you feel like you don’t have it in you to do more, this letter is for you.
I hope something in this piece resonates with your heart.
Hey you,
I see you, struggling in the corner. I see you finding it challenging to gather motivation and to bring the pieces of your heart, broken and spread apart, all back together. Maybe you won’t be able to piece your heart back the way you’d like for it to, but in case you needed to know, your heart is beautiful, in whatever way, shape or form it takes.
And hey…
You can’t quit on yourself. I’m hitting it to you straight, but you can’t quit on yourself. I know life has been tricky and challenging off late, but that is not the solution.
Take a deep breath.
Are you reading what I’m writing?
You. Cannot. Quit.
There is no cliff. There is only a flight that will take you to the stars. And I know you don’t see it, but you’re on that flight now.
It might appear as though you’re failing. It might appear as though nothing’s working out. But if you take a step back, all these small detours you’re taking are leading you to brightness.
You have to have faith that everything will work out. That it’ll all be okay. You have to give yourself a ton of grace. And be extra kind to yourself. The solution is not to berate or judge yourself. A space of struggle deserves to be seen and held with an abundance of tenderness.
There is a lot happening. But the solution is not to quit. No matter how hard it gets, no matter how painful it is, please don’t quit.
Lay down your armour, if you must. Put down the sword. Give yourself permission to rest. And to feel all that you’re feeling.
You’ve got this. Even when you think you don’t, you underestimate your own resilience and strength. And that is a disservice to yourself.
Take a deep breath. And one more.
I’m rooting for you and sending you a truckload of warmth.
